Analysis of Music Magazine Brand Identities

Q Magazine

'Q' has their iconic masthead in the the same colours and the same place in every magazine they produce, this shows a sense of continuity and makes it easily recognisable to their audience.

They all have a plain background and a medium close up/close up of a famous music artist. Q also vary their style of image a lot as there are a mixture of long shots, medium close ups and close ups, this may be to convey different emotions from the artists.I think that their front cover looks contemporary and modern which appeals to their target audience.

Q also looks original in comparison to other music magazines, it also has edginess through use of
photography and makes the image the main focus. It is also quite a busy front cover as it has a lot of text on the page which include articles that will be inside.

NME Magazine

'NME' stands for New Music Express and their magazine focus' upon establishing new and upcoming artists, so there magazine will appeal to a younger audience (16-24). This comes across in their magazine as their brand identity is very edgy and messy, their magazine has a lot of text and is very busy. They don't have a definitive colour scheme as all of their front covers vary - they mostly have a red masthead although this does change.

They always have very famous and iconic celebrities relating to the music industry on their front cover, this is one of there brand values which is to be different and unique. NME is very different to other music magazines and there isn't another one like it, they do vary there font styles depending on the content. In the main it is in sans-serif style font so it looks modern and appeals to their target audience.

Their images in the main look very serious as none of the celebrities are smiling and they are all posing in a constructed way, this makes the magazine look professional and important.
